Advocacy

Advocacy means speaking out for somebody. The job of an advocate is to speak out about another person's experiences or opinions at that person's request. It does not mean giving advice. An advocate should be independent from any support service.

There are a lot of advocacy agencies in the Bradford district. There are advocates and advocacy agencies for people with particular needs.  People First Keighley and Choice Advocacy both help people with learning disabilities. BAMHAG helps people with mental health conditions. There are also agencies supporting elderly people, people with physical disabilities and many other conditions. Not everyone is aware of the existence of advocates or how to get one.  Bradford LINk helped to establish Advocacy United.  It is a network of advocacy organisations  in the district that  will work together  to ensure  that high standards are met and the right training is provided.  Bradford LINk continues to support Advocacy United.
