Older People and Access to Counselling and Therapy Services

Many people are worried about the type of care offered to older people with depression. The Age Concern report 'Undiagnosed, Untreated, At Risk', recommends that older people with depression should be:

  • encouraged to seek help
  • diagnosed correctly
  • and receive the treatment they need.

It says that older people are less likely to be offered counselling and talking therapies than drugs - but this is based on national research so the Bradford LINk support group is trying to find out more about the situation here.

Bradford LINk has helped set up a group called Positive Minds that meets monthly. The group looks at ways to make changes to the services available to older people with depression in the district and ways to raise awareness of the issue.
