Personalisation

Personalisation is about being in control of your own health or social care. It is sometimes called Self-Directed Care. Here are some terms you might come across when you’re learning about personalisation:
Person-centred planning means your care being planned around your own personal needs.
Independent living means services that help you to live in your own home.
Individual budgets means you might be given a budget to fund your health and social care and you can decide how that money is spent.

Bradford Council wants to make it easier for people in the district to be in control of their health and social care. It is training its staff to understand Personalisation and be able to give help to people in the District.

Bradford LINk wants to make sure everyone in the District knows what Personalisation is and how it could affect their lives. We want to help people have their say in how Personalisation happens across Bradford and Airedale. We have been working with other organisations in the district including the Health Partnership Project, Bradford Alliance on Community Care (BACC) and Bradford Resource Centre (BRC).

We helped arrange some meetings in the district to tell people about what Personalisation is and how it might affect them. We have also asked BACC to hold a series of events for people from different communities to ask them what they think of plans to introduce Personalisation to the district. BACC has written a report for Bradford LINk which will be given to the people making decisions on how personalisation will work here. Bradford LINk will look at any issues that are raised in the report in 2010-2011.
